Homemade Chocolate Sauce

I primarily use this homemade chocolate sauce for chocolate milk but it's also great for drizzling over desserts!

Equipment

  • 1 Sauce pan

Ingredients
  

  • 3/4 cup sugar*
  • 1/2 cup water**
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup chocolate*** bakers chocolate, chocolate chips, etc.
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions
 

  • In a small saucepan combine sugar, water and salt.
  • Bring this mixture to a boil over medium/high heat. Stir constantly to prevent scorching.
  • Once mixture is gently boiling, add cocoa powder. Stir well, breaking up any lumps.
  • Remove from heat. Add chocolate and vanilla. Stir to combine.
  • Transfer to a storage container and keep in the fridge up to three months.

Notes

*Sugar: I usually use brown sugar. You can use whatever type of sugar you like.
**Water: You could also use milk or coconut milk. Just keep in mind a dairy product may cause the chocolate sauce to go bad faster but it would be delicious!
***Chocolate: I usually use chocolate chips because that's what I have on hand. However, keep in mind this recipe has sugar and chocolate chips do as well. That will cause your chocolate sauce to be sweeter versus using an unsweetened bakers chocolate or dark chocolate. Whatever your preference!
