Homemade Cheeseburger Hamburger Helper

This homemade version of the well-known Cheeseburger Hamburger Helper is so much better than the store bought version, both in flavor as well as nutrition!

How to Make Homemade Cheeseburger Hamburger Helper

Start by adding your butter or oil to your pot and allow that to heat up.

Add your veggies and sauté them for about three minutes.

Now you’ll add your ground beef and cook it until it is nearly done, with a little pink remaining. You don’t want to cook it too much before moving on to the next step, as there is still more cook time to go.

At this point, you’ll add your beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, and uncooked pasta.

Allow this to simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the pasta is al dente. Same as the ground beef, you don’t want to cook the pasta too much, as there is still some more cook time to go and it can become mushy.

Reduce the heat to medium-low and add your milk.

Add your cheese and stir until it is all well combined.

Notes

The amount of milk I add varies. I don’t drain my meat because it comes from a local farmer and doesn’t have a lot of fat. I’ve had my hamburger helper be too dry before. So if yours is looking like you won’t have a sufficient amount of liquid, add more milk 1/4 cup at a time until your desired consistency is reached.
