Why You Should Include Beef Gelatin in Your Diet
I’ll start by quoting straight from the article by Amanda Montalvo of Hormone Healing RD found here, “Gelatin is best known for its improvement in digestion, decreases in joint inflammation, support of good sleep, increases in insulin sensitivity, healing of the gut lining, and improved digestive capacity (how well we break down our food).”
I’ve started including beef gelatin in my diet for the positive affect it has on our hormones and digestion. I’m on my own fertility journey right now so anything I can do to support my hormones, I am interested! Our digestion is directly connected to nearly all functions of the body. Fertility journey or not, we should all strive to support our gut health.
How to Make Beef Gelatin Gummy Bears
First, I want to mention the gummy molds are not necessary. You can easily pour the gummy mixture into a large baking pan, casserole dish, a few Tupperware containers, etc. and have gummy squares. If you are interested in the gummy molds, you can find those here. However, the molds I linked are the ones I used and I do find them to be small. I prefer a larger gummy but I suppose it doesn’t really matter. I just wanted to mention it.
Great Lakes brand beef gelatin is the brand I use on recommendation from Amanda Montalvo of Hormone Healing RD. It can be purchased from Amazon, find it here.

Fruit Juice Method
There are many flavors to choose from and making the gummies straight from juice is the easiest option. Orange juice, apple juice, pineapple juice, etc. are all great options. Pour your juice into a sauce pan and heat it to nearly boiling and then remove it from the heat.
Slowly whisk in the beef gelatin. Do not add too much at once or it will clump up.
Whisk in your sweetener. I always use honey but you could use regular sugar, date sugar, maple syrup, etc.
This will start to set up as it cools so you have to move kind of quick. Use a dropper to fill your gummy molds or pour it into whatever container you are going to use and spread it out to whatever thickness you desire.
Place your gummies in either the fridge of freezer. These set up so fast, I have never found it necessary to put in the freezer. In the fridge it takes 20-30 minutes for them to set up completely.
Real Fruit Method
Add your fruit and water to a sauce pan and bring it to a boil. You can use fresh or frozen fruit but if it’s frozen it will take longer.
As soon as it boils, turn the heat down to low and simmer until the fruit is soft and smashable.
Allow your fruit mixture to cool a bit and then puree it in a blender or food processor. If you have a vented food processor, you don’t have to wait for it to cool. I use a Ninja smoothie blender and the pressure builds up if I don’t let it cool.
Pour the pureed mixture back into the sauce pan and bring it back up to almost a boil. Remove from heat.

How to Store
These need to be stored in the fridge! They are not self stable, ask me how I know. They should stay good in the fridge for 2-3 weeks, just keep an eye on them because I’m not 100% sure how the various types of fruit may impact freshness.
